"A rich man's a thief

...or philanthropist."

Is there a certain date that rich people need to donate money by? Am I just unaware of this cut-off? In the past week, SDSU has received 2 ginormous donations (one from Avera McKennan [for the pharmacy program] and one from Dana Dykhous [for the athletic complex]). This is big news--namely because it is big money and what institution of higher education doesn't want more money? However, I read just now that Denny Sanford (philanthropist extraordinaire) is working on donating $20 million to a hospital in California.

What is causing all of this giving? And where do I sign up to be on the receiving end?

For people to claim it on their 2007 taxes, they have to make a donation before the end of the year.

PS - Congrats to SDSU for ending NDSU's perfect football season.

I was thinking it had to do with the end of the year coming up--but why November; obviously you don't wake up one morning and say "Eek; if I want a tax deduction I better get rid of this extra $20 million!" But then again, I plan out when I am going to buy toilet paper.

And the game was fairly amazing--if it was going to be a team, at least it was the rival team!

I miss you.

And if I had $20 extra million to give, you'd be on my short list.

November 30th, think about a road trip to St. Paul.
